If you went to see Mates of State at the Southgate House last night, hopefully you got there early and avoided the ridiculously long line to get in and got to catch the opening act called Headlights! By the way, I am all about catching the opening acts because usually if you are going to see a band you like, they are going to bring someone you like on the road with them. Also, these acts are working really hard and pour everything they have into their 30 minutes because it is their chance to expand their audience. Anyway, this is the video for their single. Mates of State didn't disappoint... What chemistry they posses on stage... "Pleasing to the ears."

When you step back and truly think about what an achievement it is to become only the 6th player ever to hit 600 homeruns, it's hard to believe there wasn't more buzz about the accomplishment. Babe Ruth, Willie Mays, Hank Aaron, Barry Bonds, Sammy Sosa and now Ken Griffey Jr. Imagine what could have happened if he had stayed healthy during his career with the Reds? In any event, this is a Cincinnati-born
Hall of Famer and one of the best players to ever play the game. We should appreciate him for what he has done. It's a shame the bad taste of the HGH-era may have taken away some of the luster hitting 600 homeruns truly deserves...

Did you know today is National Donut Day? The manager at the Dunkin' Donuts I went to this morning didn't, but it is. Going back to WWI and originally having something to do with being a fund raising avenue for the Salvation Army 'Lassies', the first Friday of June has been National Donut Day. Krispy Kreme is more in the know as they will give you one free donut today to celebrate. Also, if you happen to be flying Southwest Airlines today, they are in the spirit as well offering free donuts on select flights.

Happy 30th to two great local record stores!
This weekend two of Cincinnati's premier independent record stores are celebrating their 30th anniversaries with big parties. Saturday night Shake It Records in Northside will be bashing at the Southgate House in Newport with featured performers: The Customs, The Long Gones, and The Tigerlilies. Sunday night Everybody's Records in Pleasant Ridge will be getting their groove on at the Madison Theater in Covington. Their lineup goes deep into Cincinnati musical roots with The Goshorn Brothers, The Modulators, The Bluebirds, and Sonny Moorman and The New Lime. In this age of digital music, I think we should celebrate the fact that these two great record stores still have a place in our lives after 30 years.

Dude is in a college library, crawls under a table where a girl is sitting, sprays a yet to be known substance on her feet out of a syringe and then takes a picture? I can't come up with even a warped explaination but I do believe it qualifies Dwight as our, "You're so not cool, tool of the week!"
