Forbes ranked Cincinnati the 5th worst city to be a sports fan?
(Once again Forbes magazine is trying to bring us down with their goofy formulas that create lists. Obviously after Cincinnati only ranked #10 according to them on their hardest drinking cities list did we start to question their integrity when we have to be at least in the top 5! In this case their list takes into account median income of the cities metro area and the cost of being a fan. They don't calculate college sports, or high school sports. Okay our pro teams suck these days but I still believe its pretty cool to be a sports fan around here with the accessibilty, the venues, and they way people are engaged to being a fan. Our College sports, especially basketball are outstanding and very few 'pro' sports towns have what we have when it comes to big time college basketball. Keep cheering Cincinnati!)

Wild Sweet Orange-'Wrestle With God'
This week Paste Magazine released a list of 22 up and coming artists you ignore at your own peril. Of course that was something I had to check out. To my surprise I only had heard of about 1/3 of the artists listed. One of them that was introduced to me via this list that struck a chord (no pun!) was Wild Sweet Orange. The Birmingham Alabama band has just the right melodic hooks and catchy emotional lyrics that I'm a sucker for.

I'm just saying...
Go U.S.A.!!!

Cincinnati's own Heather Mitts (far right) celebrates with her teammate during Team USA's semifinal victory over Japan 4-2. Heather and her US Soccer mates will be trying to bring home the gold vs. Brazil tomorrow morning live at 9AM ET. It should be a great match!
Female Canadian wrestler has message printed on her underwear???

Now for some great news...

are coming close to Cincinnati.
The Rock and Roll Means Well tour will team Drive-By Truckers and The Hold Steady. The tour kicks off in Louisville on October 30th. How did any of our venues here in Cincinnati not jump on this? The next closest stop will be Bloomington, IN. Go here for tickets and if you are thinking about going I would get your tickets a.s.a.p. because it will no doubt sell out!

Dave Matthews Band #41 (live from the Meadowlands 9/11/99)
Today's cool clip is dedicated LeRoi Moore the sax player for the Dave Matthews Band who passed away yesterday. LeRoi was with DMB from the beginning and on this song when he chimes in during the opening chords it still gives me goose bumbs. After that skip ahead to about the 5 minute mark and witness one of his classic solos during #41 from the Listener Supported DVD, it will never feel quite the same again...

The Afternoon Water Cooler
The more I've learned about John Mayer over the years, the more I think he is pretty cool... YES, I said it, John Mayer is cool! This hilarious video is exhibit A. The cameos by Kristen Bell and Ian Roberts help the cause...
Exhibit B. Have you heard his amazing cover of Free Fallin'?
I've been saying this for years...
Here is you Wake Up music video Cool Clip...
Keane-'Somewhere Only We Know' (live from London)
Over the past decade Keane has slowly but surely really built up a great fan base through fantastic songs and impassioned live performances. Here we find them in in London performing their classic break through smash, 'Somewhere Only We Know.' Keane are expected to release a new album this fall and I bet it will be good!

Greg Laswell-'What a Day'
It's a start of a new week and we kick it off with a great live performance by Greg Laswell from the Artists Den. Two things... First, in the never ending sea of talented singer/songwriters this decade will be known for, Greg Laswell is one of the few that really stands out from the rest. The pride of San Diego, Laswell has a new album out and music all over the place like on Smallville and The Hills. Second, The Artists Den, where this video was filmed, is a really cool concept. The people behind The Artists Den set up 'secret' shows in often unusual settings with today's emerging and established stars. Be sure you'll hear more about The Artists Den on this website soon!

Chad Johnson is our "You're So NOT Cool," Tool of the Week!
Chad says he can beat Michael Phelps in Swimming...
For 4 of the 5 minutes of this interview Chad was smart, engaging, and entertaining. Then he had to go say he knows people from his hood and he himself could beat Michael Phelps in the pool??? That was enough for Chad Johnson to earn our, "You're So NOT Cool, Tool of the Week" honors. Actually the entire interview is entertaining and worth a watch.
JOEL LIVES!
Finally, Joel climbs out of his cave and gives us his latest Joel's Reds' Rant! It was worth the wait and it definately appears the frustrations were mounting...

Death Cab For Cutie-'Cath'
I have to admit I have never been a huge 'Death Cab' fan but I must say the more I hear off their latest album, the more I am warming up to them. Their videos also have been quite creative and well produced like this one!

Oh Castellini...

Newsday ranked MLB owners from first to worst and guess who came in at 28th out of 30?
Oh Chad...

This report claims Chad Johnson is going to legally change his name to Ocho Cinco. I mean does anyone really care?
Esquire has put out a rather creative list of 75 things every man must do before he dies. Depending on a judges ruling on a few I gave myself 23 of the 75 things, so I have some work to do! How do you score?
Check out the trailer to this upcoming movie. The Soundtrack alone which includes We Are Scientists and Vampire Weekend has me sold!

Bad Veins-'Fake Baby'
We were excited to finally catch a live set from emerging Cincinnati band Bad Veins at the Southgate House Sunday night when they opened for We Are Scientists. They lived up to the hype with a powerful, emotional set that included all their signiture props. It was also cool to see members of Oxford Collapse and We Are Scientists up front and center jamming out with them. Check out their stage set with this live in studio performance. Next week they will be at the Mad Hatter, more details to follow.

The Cool Corner pays its tribute to the Mac...
"It's been a while since I've played right field." Dunn said. "But I think it's one of those things that once I get out there during batting practice and get my feet wet, I'll be fine." -A. Dunn

Yeah, good luck with that Arizona. I hope the best for Dunn but let's hope this trade is a sign the Reds are ready to build a team, not a bunch of individuals. Here is the full story.
Gas Prices? The War?

I know this has been a well circulated picture but thought it was too good not to share. Go USA!

Jay-Z does Wonderwall & 99 Problems
While looking for some We Are Scientists clips last week, I came across many cool clips from Glastonbury 2008 over in England. I thought this was a really cool moment when Jay-Z opened his set with 'Wonderwall' which was a huge sing along and then breaks into '99 Problems.' Ashley and I were trying to predict some of the potential headliners for Lollapalooza next year and I think Jay-Z would be a good guess!

Joel must be too depressed about the Reds to Rant so I must do what I can to fill the void like post this video of Ryan Parker's song called 'The Reds are like William Hung.'
Hall of Fame Dayton Daily News beat writer, Hal McCoy has a blog and wrote a great entry about his experience at the Reds game yesterday. Another void filler until Joel returns...

We saw We Are Scientists, and we loved them. Check it out here... There will be more to come from those who came!

The Hold Steady-'Contructive Summer' (Live on a rooftop in NYC)
For Pitchfork, the world's best band, The Hold Steady jammed some songs on a New York City rooftop including this one 'Contructive Summer,' the lead song on their awesome new album. Pretty cool, check it out and if you want to see all the songs they performed on the roof, go here!

Here is a sweet video of Vampire Weekend playing 'Oxford Comma' at Glastonbury this summer. After watching this I still can't believe we saw these guys in the tiny room at the Gypsy Hut in Northside earlier this year....

Sunday night at the Southgate House We Are Scientists will be bringing their excellent and fun live performance to the main hall. They are now on a U.S. tour after spending most of the summer playing in Europe. The California band is known for their excellent music of course but they also input light hearted humor into their persona. Below are a couple of video clips that show that side... Ace of Base??!!
We have a little bit of bad news this morning...

Forbes magazine included four Ohio cities in its "America's Fastest-Dying Cities" list. One of Cincinnati's own step-brother cities, Dayton, is part of this ill-fated list. Sadly, Ohio had the most metro areas of any U.S. state considered for the compilation. (from the Business Courier of Cincinnati)
