Our latest Cool Person of the Week is Peter Frampton! Mr. Frampton has earned this honor not only by rocking our freaking socks off for the last four decades, but also by becoming a true Cincinnatian. The closest dear 'ole Peter will be coming by home in October is Knoxville, TN on 22 October, but you can check out other dates on his official website. If you're lucky, though, you may just catch a glimpse of the Live Legend at the Dilly Cafe... I have been lucky enough to see the back of Mr. Frampton's own head!!!

This Week's Cool Person is Heather Mitts.

This week, after several years of battling injuries, Heather Mitts, a St. Ursula grad from here in Cincinnati, was named to the 2008 U.S. Women's Olympic team which will open play in Beijing on August 6th against Norway. The U.S. defender has been known during her career as much for her incredible soccer talent as she has for her amazing good looks. In 2004 she was named "Hottest Female Athlete" by users of ESPN.com and routinely ranks on lists all over the internet as one of the sexiest female athletes in the world. Heather has appeared in Maxim and F.H.M magazines. At the University of Florida she was an all-american before starting her international career for U.S. Soccer. Last year she missed out on the World Cup when she tore her ACL leading up to the tournament and I am sure she is excited to be back playing this year in the Olympics! Heather comes back to town every year to run a soccer camp at Summit Country Day which began today. Good luck to Heather and her pals in Beijing and congrats on being named Cincycoolness.com Cool Person of the Week!

This week's Cool Person is Jay Bruce.

Welcome to Cincinnati, Jay Bruce! What an amazing first week! 13-22, 2 homeruns, including a extra inning game winning walk off. Best thing is, from all indication, he is a great and humble guy who is relishing this moment that I am sure Reds fans will be talking about for years to come. With new found fame come some cool stories. This one from the Dayton Daily News talks about how his sister is an inspiration to him. Another story found on the front page of today's USA TODAY sports section does a great job putting into perspective what a potential once-in-a-life-time event we witnessed this week. Thank you "Babe Bruce" for bringing some excitment and energy back to Cincinnati and Great American Ball Park. Maybe the 7 years my friends and I have shared Reds' season tickets will finally begin to pay off!?

This week's Cool Person is Chuck Warinner.

Chuck Warinner (left) celebrates St. Patty's Day at The 'Patch' with Betsy the bartender and some other guy...

Why is Chuck cool? Aside from the fact that he has made it to 50, still looks 38 and still lives like he's 25, owns the Dilly Cafe in Mariemont, has adopted Xavier as his basketball team despite having gone to Michigan, loves The Hold Steady, hangs in there with the Reds, has an amazing knack of selecting excellent wine and beer making it available to the community, will one day be his own boat captain, and can saber a bottle of Champagne perfectly after spending an entire day drinking. Chuck is cool mostly because he is great person, friend, and business owner with a huge heart who lives each day to the fullest and is never afraid of a new adventure. Here's to your first 50 years, and at least another 50 to go... if not more!

This week's Cool Person is Dusty Baker the new manager of the Cincinnati Reds.

Joel from Joel's Reds' Rant tells us why:

There are just too many reasons why Dusty Baker is cool to list them all here. We’ll go with just a few highlights pertaining to baseball. There will also be a Best of Baker piece each week on the Reds Rant.

Dusty Baker was hired by the Cincinnati Reds on October 16th 2007 following 7 straight losing seasons. One of the first things Baker stressed was he was a winner, "I loved to win. I'm spoiled by winning. I want to get back to that." So do we Dusty!

He also stressed his belief that he could draw top talent to want to play for him and the Reds. New closer Fransico Cordero was not shy about expressing the importance that Baker was the manager played into his decision to sign. Cordero is the first Reds non retread signing since…um…uh…I’ll have to look that up.

While being known throughout baseball as a very popular guy and a players manager he showed early on in spring training that he means business. On the second day of full squad workouts Baker addressed the media and said some things needed to be addressed with the club. He promptly called Junior and Dunn into his office to discuss the intensity of their performance during drills, or lack thereof. The meeting while short relayed Baker’s message and its importance. Nobody, including Mr. All Century or Mr. Dunn, was going to get away with anything in Baker’s camp. He told them both that they were expected to lead by example during spring training. What a change from previous regimes where Griffey and Dunn seemed to have their run of the place. Wow, very refreshing.

Baker was on deck when Aaron called his 715th home run.
Click his picture for full story.

And if that’s not cool enough did you know that Baker was the man in the lineup who protected Hank Aaron on his way to breaking Babe Ruth’s career home run record. Baker was on deck when Aaron hit number 715. Just before going to the plate on an unusually cold night in Atlanta, Aaron told Baker “It's cold out here. I'm gonna get this over with right now.” That’s right 715 was called and Baker was the one who heard it. That’s very cool.

This week's cool person is actually two people, Ben Davis and
Sebastien Schultz of local band Bad Veins!

Local band Bad Veins quickly caught the attention of the music industry with a unique live show that involves a mega-phone and melancholy, rhythmic tunes like 'The Lie' and 'Gold and Warm.' A full length album is due out soon and they are representing their hometown at the legendary South By South West music fest in Austin, Texas, which gets underway this weekend. They'll be back in the area on March 19th when they play at the Southgate House in Newport.  They'll be coming off what I am sure will be momentum out of SXSW, and they'll put on a great show!
