The #9 Cool Clip of 2008!

We Are Scientists>>After Hours

December 22, 2008

The RCA Dome in Indy was imploded on Saturday, check it out...

This old dome was a place I have witnessed several great moments.  The two best had to be Xavier's win over Georgetown that sent them to the sweet sixteen and a Farm Aid concert when Elton John was a surprise guest and played 'Candle In The Wind' for the child who died of aids just hours before, Ryan White.

Their list is out and my prediction, Fleet Foxes, came in 4th...

There are only 10 days left in 2008, can you believe it?  So each remaining day, starting today we will be counting down the top 10 Cool Clips of the year.  It's been a fun process reseaching and sharing these clips to start each day, and hopefully along the way someone has watched and discovered a new band or artist they are now into that before they had never heard of...  So let the countdown begin!

The #10 Cool Clip of 2008!

Also, Heartless Bastards will be playing the Woxy lounge today live a 1p.m.

Here is today's FUNKY FRIDAY music video Cool Clip....

Home Video>>I Can Make You Feel It

Home Video are a Brooklyn based group (who isn't these days) transplanted from New Orleans that is heavy on electro/rock and this song lives up to its name because you can definately 'Feel it!'  A perfect song to get us going for the weekend.

December 17, 2008

What's cool about living in Cincinnati is we are close to other cities like Louisville, which is where we will be tonight for what will must surely be an amazing show by Bon Iver.  If you haven't heard of the Eau Claire natives, here is a clip to inform you more...

Here is today's music video Cool Clip....

Bon Iver>>For Emma, Forever Ago

This is Bon Iver in a classic 'take away' show performing For Emma, Forever Ago in various locations in throughout Paris.  Quite entertaining!

Here is a funny tribute to "Thy Belly"  We have a reBELLYon!

There actually is a story behind this video.  It involves Amanda Palmer of Dresdon Dolls fame and her record label wanting her to cut images of her fat belly out or her video for this song...

Was that a Chris Henry sighting in the end zone yesterday???

Wow!  The Bengals won their second game of the year and Chris Henry scored a touchdown.  The real winners yesterday at PBS though were the guys from  WhoDeyRevolution who 'caked' 1000 urinals all over the stadium!

and this is what the cake said...

Here is a hilarious commercial for an Aussie Beer!

Christmas Tis the season of CHEEESE!

Thanks popcandy

Here is today's music video Cool Clip....

Deerhoof>>Offend Maggie

San Francisco band Deerhoof's most recent album is called Offend Maggie.  Now we all probably know a Maggie we'd like to offend but we just can't help to think that the Maggie we know, who spent a year recently in San Francisco, is somehow the inspiration for this title track.  In any event, Deerhoof continue to make interesting, unusal sounding music in unconventional formats, like they have since 1994.  Their latest effort, recorded partly live, doesn't disappoint.

Here is today's Funky Friday music video Cool Clip....

Jamie Lidell>>Another Day

There is really no other white boy from England who gets away with not only being funky but owning the genre like Jamie Lidell.  One of our favorites at last summer's Lollapalooza, it has been a big year for Mr. Lidell.  His second full length album, Jim, is on many best of year lists and he is currently on tour supporting Elton John in Europe.  This video was just named the 6th best of the year on MTV's Subterranean.

December 11, 2008

Xavier enjoys their 78-56 rout of the real Bobcats, Obama's 'Bobcats' are next!

Derrick Brown and Dante Jackson enjoy a big moment in #9 Xavier's rout of Ohio U.

Congrats to the Dilly Deli Cafe in Mariemont for being named the 12th best beer bar on planet earth according to Beer Advocate.

Here is today's music video Cool Clip....

The Airborne Toxic Event>>Sometime Around Midnight

I'm not sure how I was so slow to pick up on The Airborne Toxic Event because apparently they are one of the biggest buzz bands of the year.  They are from Los Angeles and the song from this video is quite amazing.  It soars like a U2 song, builds up like a Snow Patrol song, and groans like a song by The National.  All in all a great combination.  Other tracks from their self-titled debut album have similar depth and diversity.  I am sure this will be a band we'll be hearing more from in '09.

December 10, 2008

Here is today's music video Cool Clip....

Ra Ra Riot>>Can You Tell (Live on Letterman)

There is a great show tonight at Southgate House as Ra Ra Riot hit town.  They also will be doing a free in store acoustic set at Shake It Records at 6P.M.  This should be a fantastic show with lots of energy as Ra Ra Riot support their debut full length album, The Rhumb Line.

Cincinnati is one of Andy Katz of ESPN's 5 places to be this week...

Cincinnati, Saturday: It's hard to remember the Xavier-Cincinnati game ever being a dog. The Bearcats are playing much better, evidenced by a solid, seven-point win over UAB. Xavier has emerged as one of the top 15 teams in the country. Cincinnati could use a high-profile, nonconference win prior to the Big East season.

December 8, 2008

SNL digital shorts lately are among the best features of the show, this one is just hilarious! (Yes, there is a Jamie-Lynn Siegler sighting as well...)

Did you ever think the day would come when you saw this!!??

Congrats to the Bearcats' football program and their fans, good luck in Miami!

Here is today's music video Cool Clip....

Lambchop>>Slipped Dissolved and Loosed

Here is a very impressively shot video for Lambchop's second track off their new critically acclaimed album. OH (Ohio)Lambchop are from Nashville Tennessee and have been around since the mid-90's.  Though it is easy to describe their music as alt-country, some would argue the brillance and uniqueness of their sound puts them in a category all their own.  Members of this band change and evolve but frontman and lyricist Kurt Wagner remains the constant.  Wagner's understated and ambiguously melodic lyrics set him apart from most other songwriters.  This song might be the most amazing love song written in 2008.

Plaxico Burress has a new friend!

Plaxico Burress has seen better days, like the one pictured above left when he hauled in the winning TD for the Giants in last year's Superbowl. He may have found a new buddy, though, in Urbana, OH man Timothy Havens pictured above right. Havens is in jail after he claims he.... accidentally shot his wife during sex

Here's a video report....

Here is today's Funky Friday music video Cool Clip....

Estelle >> American Boy ft. Kanye West

Londoner Estelle makes music that reminds me of Lauryn Hill. She combines hip hop, doo wop, soul, pop, and jazz. The infectious combination of her British style and Kanye West's American style makes this a great video worthy of getting the weekend started funky style!

#14 Xavier holds off Auburn to give Sean Miller win #100!

musketeerscoop.com

Big freshman Kenny Frease defends. He also lead the muskies in rebounds. B.J. Raymond went wild from 3 Point Land finishing with a career high of 32 points as Xavier survived a sluggish second half and defensive meltdown to take out Auburn 81-74.

Here is today's music video Cool Clip....

Friendly Fires >> Paris

Friendly Fires are a fast-rising UK band from St. Albans, Hertfordshire. Their music brings back the late 80's UK alternative sound called shoegazing. Their first full-length, self-titled album was released on XL Recordings in September. Fans of The Killers will like Friendly Fires... Expect to hear more from this band in 2009.

Chad Ocho Cinco was one of the the crazy people out shopping at 5:00 A.M. last Friday

at a Best Buy in Florence, KY. He said he was trying to get Marvin Lewis a gift!

This Dad let his 9 year old son drive him on a beer run!

Click here for the full story and here for the video.

It's been awhile but here is the latest:

You're So Not Cool, Tool of the week!

Jamel Sechrest mouthed off to a judge today because he was unhappy his trial wouldn't be continued until February, and the accused gang member got six months in jail for contempt. "That’s (bleeping) bull (bleep)," he muttered today after Hamilton County Common Pleas Judge Robert Ruehlman set the Feb. 2 trial date for Sechrest and eight of his co-defendants. Here is the full story.

If you are going to tonight's Xavier game vs. Auburn, make sure you stay in your seats at halftime so you don't miss...QUICK CHANGE!

The Blue Blob a joker!?

Also, if you're attending the Xavier game tonight, get there early for one of the cooler give aways they have ever done. The first 3,000 fans will receive a custom playing card deck featuring Xavier's 1,000-point club members courtesy of Franklin Savings. The card deck was produced in Norwood by the US Playing Card Company. The two Jokers are the Blue Blob and Pete Gillen.

...and there's more to be excited about tonight at Cintas Center...

Miller goes for win #100

Sean Miller can notch win #100 tonight if #14 Xavier can knock off SEC foe Auburn.  Miller is 99-37 in his career at Xavier, and he's in only the early stages of his 5th year at the helm. He was also featured in today's edition of USA TODAY, check it out here.

Here is today's music video Cool Clip....

Lisa Hannigan >> Lille

WIth all due respect to Damien Rice, his records would never have sounded nearly as complete without the lovely voice of Lisa Hannigan. Lisa has gone out on her own and finally released her first solo effort, Sea Sew.  Lisa has one of the most angelic voices I have ever heard, and some of her solos during Damien Rice shows I've seen have been among the best musical moments I've ever witnessed. This new song 'Lille' (recorded live) definitely doesn't disappoint.

Seabird >> Falling For You (Live)

It's been a heck of a 2008 for our favorite local band, Seabird. They opened Midpoint Music Festival and had songs featured on ABC's Pushing Daisies and Grey's Anatomy. They released their first album in grand style with a release party on the Belle of Cincinnati riverboat. (This video of the song used on Grey's Anatomy is from that show!) Now they continue to book more and more national tour dates including a chance to play at SXSW in Austin in March of next year. Seabird has the sound, talent, passion, and intangibles to make it big in the music industry. Cincinnati is lucky they call us home.

The Hold Steady >> Massive Nights (Live at The Wiltern)

I know the site has been empty for a  few days but that was due in part to a trip to Los Angeles to catch the final night of the 'Rock and Roll Means Well Tour' at the Wiltern in Hollywood featuring Drive-by Truckers and, of course, The Hold Steady. Saying I saw the opening night of this tour in Louisville and the closing night in L.A. makes me feel like a lucky guy. It was a "massive night" to say the least, so this clip shot at the final show is only fitting. Other cool moments from the L.A. show included an Ape Dance, the performance of Cheyenne Sunrise, and the closing song Killer Parties. During the closing song that had both Drive-by Truckers and The Hold Steady on stage together, the moment when THS lead singer Craig Finn talks about the end of the tour and proclaims, "There is so much joy in what we do up here," is the goose bump defining moment that sets apart The Hold Steady as one of the greatest live rock bands possibly ever.
