Wanted to be funky and have a Halloween theme and this is the video that first came to mind.  Have a great and spooky weekend!

Here is today's music video Cool Clip....

The Hold Steady>>Stuck Between Stations (Live!)

Today is a great day and Rock and Roll means well.  It's not everyday that you get to see your favorite band (unless you follow them from city to city, sell drugs to the other followers, and jam to the music even when the music stops.)  Today we are off to Louisville to see the opening night of the Rock and Roll Means well tour with Drive-by Truckers and of course THE HOLD STEADY!  If you ever get the chance to see The Hold Steady live, do yourself a favor and go!  I have been to endless shows and seen too many bands to remember them all and The Hold Steady are as good a live band I have ever seen.  To give you a taste, here is a great clip from a club in Brooklyn from 2 years ago.

Happy 37th Birthday Winona Ryder!

This may reveal my age a little but there isn't a guy or girl for that matter that I grew up with that didn't love Winona Ryder!  She will always be, in my opinion, one of the coolest movie stars of her generation.

Here is today's music video Cool Clip....

Bloc Party>>Signs

Bloc Party released their new album yesterday called Intimacy and after a quick listen the song 'Signs' really stood out.  In fact, it is so hauntingly good, I think it may be one of the best tracks of the year.  Surely they will eventually release this song as a single and make an official video for it, but for now the best we have is a live version performed on the BBC's Live With Jools Holland.  See if you agree or not that this song is a 'sign' after a subpar sophomore album, that Bloc Party is back on track!?

Entourage is back on its 'A'(ri) game!

After the year long lay off because of the writer's strike and coming off a sub par season, it has taken a little while to fully get back into Entourage.  However, the last few episodes have firmly entrenched that the series is back and better than ever!  The last two episodes in particular have Emmy award winning actorJeremy Piven, who plays Ari Gold, giving possibly his best performances yet.  Check out this cool Entourage fansite done by some Austrailian dudes called Entourage F*cking Fan Club, it's pretty good as far as fan sites go...

Here is today's New Music spotlight video Cool Clip....

Every Tuesday is when the record industry releases their new albums and the good people at altitudetv.com put together short, comprehensive video clips featuring the weeks top new rock releases.  So for now on on Tuesdays, instead of highlighting an individual artist, we'll give you this.  What a good week to start the tradition as well as this week Snow Patrol, Bloc Party, and The Cure, just to name a few all have new albums out!  Worth a look!

It was over before it began...

The Bengals originally were to have been on a bye yesterday until hurricane Ike caused schedule changes but they played as if they were on a bye anyway.  To watch the low-lights including Joseph's 'two-hand touch' play that pretty well sums up the season, go here.

I think after watching the Bengals we need a good laugh and Doug Stanhope may be the best comedian out there these days so I am leaving it to him. Check this out but keep in mind it is off color and NSFW!

After Kate had a 'bye week' of her own, she's back with 2 new wine picks!

Here is today's music video Cool Clip....

Matt & Kim-'Daylight'

If this is not one of the better videos of the year the song may be one of the best tracks of the year and what a perfect upbeat tempo to get a new week started with!  Matt and Kim are a duo from Brooklyn and I am becoming more of a fan of them everyday.  Matt Johnson and Kim Schifino formed the band in 2004 with an enthusiastic approach which is fun, refreshing and who can't get excited about music described as 'dance punk?'  Lucky for us they are touring in support of their new album, Grand, and they will be stopping at the Mad Hatter in Covington on Tuesday, November 18th.  For sure their will be more about them on this site as that date nears...

Here is today's FUNKY FRIDAY music video Cool Clip....

Calvin Harris-'The Girls'

Yes it's Friday and today we feature Scottish born Calvin Harris to get us in the funky mood with his top 5 UK hit, 'The Girls.'  His music, which is described as electroclash, contains uptempo 80's remixes.  After his debut album was a top 10 success, a new album is expected from the ever creative Mr. Harris by mid-2009.

The Stills-'Being Here'

Canadian post-punk rock band The Stills gained a steady following a few years ago touring with bands like Interpol and Kings Of Leon.  They played here in Cincinnati at the Desdemona Festival a couple of years ago and that's when they first got my attention.  The Montreal natives opened for Paul McCartney at a show celebrating the cities 400 year anniversary and their new album, Oceans Will Rise, was released in August.  'Being Here' is the first single off the new album.

Kings Of Leon-'Sex On Fire'

Tennessee rock band Kings Of Leon are back with a new album, recent appearances on Saturday Night Live and Letterman, as well as a #1 debut on the U.K. charts.  The band made up of 3 brothers and a first cousin play hard drivin' southern roots rock with an edge and don't disappoint here with their new album debut single.

Kaiser Chiefs-'Never Miss A Beat

The Kaiser Chiefs are back today with a new album called Off With Their Heads.  The boys from Leeds in the UK exploded on the scene in 2005 with their debut full length album Employment.  With a blend of new wave and punk tied in with classic Brit Pop power, their songs are fun and infectious.  'Never Miss A Beat' is their first single off the new album.  They have been touring in support of Oasis and have a series of U.S. dates scheduled in November.

So it's Tampa Bay and Philly in the World Series...YAWN!  Actually who cares what TV execs think, as a Mets fan I hate the Phillies and The Rays should be an inspiration to the Cincinnati Reds! So GO RAYS! And in the spirit baseball , here is a cool collection of Baseball Movie All-Stars.

Sarah Palin's appearance on Saturday Night Live gave the show its best ratings in 14 years.  Here is the opening!

Flight of the Conchords-'Ladies of the World'

While watching Entourage last night, which keeps getting better every week this season, I realized I miss that Flight of the Conchords is not on right after Entourage like it was during its first season.  I hear it will be coming back though in early 2009, so while we wait, here is their video salute to all the ladies!

Stocks sink but there's whisky galore

By Catherine Hornby

AMSTERDAM (Reuters) - While investors flee traditional markets such as stocks and commodities on growing recession fears, trade in rare bottles of whisky is flourishing.

Roughly 11 months after the launch of a Dutch online trade platform for exclusive single malt whiskies, mostly from Scotland, the World Whisky Index has seen an average return of 26.2 percent, compared to a more than 40 percent decline in the MSCI World stock index.

Sights, sounds, and observations from a great rock weekend

here in Greater Cincinnati!

*The Black Keys show rocked at the sold out Madison Theater. Their driving rock sound is so intense you still felt it the next day!

*I never have been to a show where a fire alarm went off and everyone had to evacuate, but that is exactly what happened during the second song of the Black Keys show. The staff at The Madison did a great job handling it all and the show resumed about 30 minutes later.

*I had a refreshing experience at Bogarts. It has been awhile since I've been there, but they had an independent security team working and they were pretty cool. Not the antaganistic crew that has spoiled so many Bogarts shows in the past.

*The Whigs lived up to my expectations with an explosive set ahead of The Kooks. Expect to hear more from this band in the months to come.

*The lead singer of The Kooks, Luke Pritchard, is a star. He captured the crowd at Bogarts from the start and didn't let go until the lights came up after the encores. It reminded me of early Coldplay shows and how Chris Martin was able to do the same thing.

The Kooks @ Bogarts
